I'v closed the box and am getting ready to do the bindings. Solid wood bindings without purfling ( trying to keep it simple )

The binding material is slightly thicker than the sides.To me it seems sensible to just remove the side wood as deep as the kerfings but not remove kerfing material then scrape the bindings flush. Is thisk or should I leave a bit of the side material ?

I've got a dremel with the Stew mac binding attachment. From what I've seen here this isn't the best tool for the job but its what I've got . Presumably there are those of you who have used this tool sucessfully .Are there any tips you can give me please ? How many cuts should I expect to take to remove the material ? What are the problems I should look out for ?

On mine I cut the binding channel to the size it needs to be with or without purfling. If I cut through the side and into the linning then so be it. I don't see it as a problem but I could be wrong.....

and about the stew mac dremel setup. It is easy to use and does a nice job. Just be sure to go slow and keep the edge guide firmly against the side. If you tip the dremel away from the side the bit will leave a nice gouge Go slow and take a smaller cut than you need at the first pass. (not as deep or wide as you need it. It will help prevent tearout and also give you a chance to get a feel for it.Joe Beaver39084.2255555556

The only problem I know of with cutting into the kerfs of the linings is that glue might spill into the interior of the instrument because the binding rabbet has opened a hole through the kerf. If you use CA glue, especially if you use a bit too much of it, it can make a real mess inside the box that will be difficult to clean up.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Just finished routing the ledges this afternoon. Just needs a little clean up with a needle file then it'll be ready to glue on the bindings.

Took it REALLY slow and I think it went ok.
